Wireless Printer Will Only Connect To Router When There Is No Security?
I recently got a HP Photosmart C6380 Wireless Printer and for some time, I’ve been trying to figure out why the printer would not be able to recognize my router. Finally, I found out that the reason was because I secured my wireless with WPA. So I made it unsecure to test it out and it detected it.
However, I don’t want to leave me wireless unsecure and I don’t want to make it WEP since it’s not very secure. But if I make it WPA, then the printer won’t be able to detect the router. What can I do?
I was reading that maybe I could add the printer’s MAC address into my router network or something like this.
I’m a novice at this so I could use some help. Thanks!

You are right in saying that the router is not compatible with WPA, happens with some printers.
but to get a reliable security there are two ways :
1. WEP — not very secure if at 64 bit, but good level of security if used in 128 bit mode. To do this, you just need to select WEP and then select the length or the size of the encryption(security) as 128 bit.
2. Wireless Access List — very very secure, but for each and every computer or device that you want to be wirelessly conencted has to be added manually to this list in the router’s configuration page. So not very user-friendly as getting the MAC Address of all the devices (current and future) and then adding them in the list becomes slightly daunting.
So, go for WEP security at 128 bit.
