Why Do I Have To Re-install My Printer Everytime I Plug The Usb Into My Laptop?
Filed in Deskjet Help Forums on ก.ย..28, 2009
I have a HP Photosmart C4280 Printer and a HP Pavilion dv6000 Laptop that runs Windows Vista. Whenever I plug it in to use it, it makes me go through re-installing it all over again saying it recognizes new hardware and I have to use the original CD, etc. and now i have about 14 “copies” of my printer.
Help Please!

I am using Window vista too and everytime I plug in anything, it will sort of like install it and showing me a small pop out screen at the bottom right. If you don’t plug it out, usually it will not prompt you again. For thrumb drive which I often plug in and out, it will always show me a install screen or something similar. I consider that as normal as it is a feature of Window Vista. I think you can hide this thing but I need to check where as I saw it before.
However, if yours is a printer, even if it did show the installation screen, it should not make you install as a new printer. I think your Pc is not reading the printer as a printer at all. When i plug in the printer and power it on, it will show install for the first time. After install, the small pop out screen will vanish. I only need to do it once as I don’t plug in and out the printer. I suspect your usb port has some problem. If I am correct, it should happen the same with other things you plug in. My USB sometime will also have this problem. Mine has the 5 in one slot and despite one slot has a sd card plug in all the time, once a blue moon, it will start to show me pop out screen when it install or reading something. After that, it will create a strange txt file at the drive. Mine printer is the old 9 pin dot matrix. I guess your printer could not be that older than mine. Try not to use any CD. Let your PC auto detect what drivers it need online. Yours is connected to online right? Hope this can solve part of the problem. My Pc is Acer. HP brand should have lesser problem. Good Luck.
