Which Laptop Do You Recommend? Lenovo Think Pad/ Idea Pad Series Or Hp G60t/ Hp Dv6…?
In the process of buying my first laptop and I’m caught between lenovo & HP. The cost of a Mac is out of the question for now and I won’t use my laptop for any graphic designing or media anyway. I’ve heard mixed reviews about lenovo concerning that they use to be good when IBM had complete ownership, but not they aren’t as good. I also have read issues about HP battery life and overheating. I basically need a laptop for overall use. Mainly for schoolwork on the run and minor Photo shop. I’m looking for a laptop between these two companies under 900. I was thinking about these laptops below:
Lenovo Idea Pad Y450 – 418934U
Intel® Core™ Duo T4200 ( 2GHz 800MHz 1MB )
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1066MHz
Hard Drive 160GB 5400
Intel Wireless Wi-Fi Link 5100
or
ThinkPad T400
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8600 (2.40GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) 25W
ATI Mobility Radeon 3470 with 256MB
2 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
160 GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
ThinkPad WiFi (BGN)
4 cell Li-Ion Battery
or….
HP G60T
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6400 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 1GB DDR2 System Memory (1 Dimm)
250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive from 160GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
HP Pavilion dv6t series
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6400
4GB of Memory
320GB of Hard Drive
Wireless-G Card
I know some of the configurations are higher in the memory and hard drive space, but the difference isn’t a concern as build quality and if the laptop will crash on me a lot.

Consumer Reports ranks the Lenovo very, very poorly.
In this case it’s the lesser of two evils: get the HP. It has enough memory to keep up with the drain of Windows and the hard drive is plenty large.
Forget the ThinkPad and Lenovo. However, the HP dv6 has been showing up in this section of Yahoo Answers quite a bit. It seems people are having a LOT of problems with them.
I still suggest looking for a refurbished Mac for the same price as the HP. You don’t need to be a graphics designer or do anything serious with media, you just have to want to not endure headaches anymore. A refurbished MacBook is $749 on Apple.com. If nothing else, consider getting one on eBay. Consumer Reports consistently ranks Apple laptops at the number one spot in each size category (13″, 15″, and 17″).
