What’s Wrong With My Printer?
Filed in Deskjet Help Forums on ม.ค..10, 2010
My printer status indicates that ink levels are full, but why does it print as if there is no ink? The text is very light and the color is even faded. I put the printing quality at “Best” under the options, yet it still prints like this.
I have a HP Photosmart C4380 Series. It is an InkJet printer.
Can someone please tell me how to fix this problem?

The most likely cause is that the print heads need to be cleaned. Use your software to run through a cleaning cycle. It may take more than one try (especially if the printer has been sitting for a while).
If cleaning doesn’t work, it could be that the new cartridges were sitting on the shelf for a long time and have dried out — this can happen after about a year and a half EVEN if they were never opened. Assuming they weren’t sitting on your shelf, take them back to the store you bought them from. They should give you new ones if you bring the ones you bought back.
Finally, if you don’t think the new cartridges could be old, then you can read through other causes here:http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01…

Printer indicators are not accurate especially in home consumer HP printers. I suggest to try another cartridge – and make sure your current cart is not expired; expired ink will not print well. Yellow ink is usually fastest to expire.
If you haven’t used it recently – another possibility is that the ink dried up.
Yes, you may have just replaced the ink cartridges, but check their packaging to check expiry date.

If this is a new cartridge (Just newly purchased) return it to the store or
If it is a new cartridge and you haven’t used it for a while, try this
Put the head part of the ink cartridge in about 1/2 inch of hot water (Not boiling) for about 2 minutes, blot dry and run a print test may need to run the test twice

There are multiple scenarios. When was the last time you changed your cartridges. Have you not used your printer for an extended amount of time. Have you used utilities menu to clean the heads. And as with my HP which has been very, very reliable I bought a new printer because i thought the printer was defective only to be bad cartridges half way through their life. So you cartridge could be failing. (Use the clean utility again)
