I agree with the answer that said speed. But also keep in mind quality, laserjets (in my experience) give a superior quality print for black & white.
The one thing that the officejet and deskjets do better for the money, is color printing. I don’t think you can even get an HP laserjet color printer for under $400; but you can get an HP deskjet color printer for as cheap as $40.
The difference between officejets and deskjets, is that officejets are bigger, faster, and more expensive. Other than that, I think the quality between the two is about the same (at least for the top-line deskjets).

I’m not sure about the difference between officejet and deskjet printers. It’s probably durability, since office printers usually handle a whole lot more work than a home printer would.
