Need Help With Vista?

we just bought a new computer today cause it was on sale and it came with vista preloaded on it. when we try to install our printer (hp photosmart 7700) the installation stops because we “dont have administrative rights” even though both my husband and i are administrators. i would like to be able to fix this problem so we dont have to buy windows xp even though that is the os we would both prefer. any info is greatly appreciated, i need to be able to use the printer and it is almost brand new anyway.

How Do I Get Internet Explorer To Work Vista?

I have had Vista for a year now and have been unsuccessful in using Internet Explorer. My IP suggested I use Mozilla FireFox, which is okay for some things. I can’t get most websites to load. It just sits there loading forever. I can’t even get on to the HP site to download the drive for my photosmart printer. This is so frustrating for myself! I just want to be able to use Internet Explorer!!

Printer Sharing Between Xp – Vista Systems?

I have a question about sharing printers. I am fixing a few networking issues with a friend’s computer, specifically trying to connect them on a local home network. One system is running Windows XP SP 2, and the other is running Windows Vista, SP 1. The Vista system is newer, but the XP System is about six years old. I was able to create a shared folder that resides on both desktops in order to facilitate file transfer between units, and that works just fine. When trying to share the printers, I ran into a problem. The printer, connected to the Vista unit, is an HP Photosmart 7000 series. I went about sharing the printer through the control panel, as I normally would, and installed the latest drivers from hp.com. Then, I installed the same driver package on the XP system, choosing the option to “not connect the printer at this time”, but to otherwise install the same drivers and software. Now, when it comes to linking up the XP computer to the Vista one, in terms of printers, I am able to do a network search and see the Vista computer, and the correct printer ID when I do a “find printer” search through the printer dialogue boxes, but when I select it, I get an error talking about incorrect drivers. Can anybody help me figure this one out? I have used these steps before to network a Brother MFC-440CN all-in-one connected to an XP SP3 system in my own home to allow my hp laptop, running Vista, to print wirelessly by running the request through that particular printer shared through my home network, so I’m not sure what is wrong with this similar process? Is it correct to install the same software driver packages on both computers? Should I use the mfr. cd instead (if my friend has it)? I know that I have the correct driver package, but not sure if there are different versions for XP and Vista that are having trouble interacting. Any ideas are greatly appreciated, because I feel like I am almost there, since I know the two computers can network, because of the shared folder, and I can find the correct printer on the network navigating to it through Network Neighborhood on the XP system. Thanks.
