I Cannot Transfer Pictures From My Printer To My Pc?

I have an HP Photosmart 7450 [yah, kinda old, I know] and this printer has the little sockets to put my memory card in. I have inserted my memory card and this light flashes green a few times, then starts to flash red. And I’m unable to find my pictures from the memory card anywhere on the computer.I currently dont have any software (that i know of) on this pc for that printer. When I first got this printer I had windows xp and now I have vista. the software that came with this printer is not for vista. Would that have anything to do with my problem?

I got this transfer magic iron on transfers . I wanted to know what would be good choice of printer that I can use to have a good quality transfer. Basically the tshirts I have (white,grey,pink,lite blue). I am not ver sure about the printer. Please help with the model and not just the brand.
