I want to make a small home network so that I can share files and the printer. Here’s the equipment I have:
-iMac with Mac OS X 10.4
-HP Laptop with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
-HP Photosmart C5280 Printer
-Linksys (WRT54G) Wireless Router
-Tons of extra cat5 cables (Ethernet Cable)
My iMac is the desktop, primary computer that has the Printer connected directly too it. I have software on both Mac and PC systems that files can be opened on both patforms. I essentially want to be able to do file transferring between the two computers, and print from the laptop when connected to the network.
Does anyone have a really good walkthrough or know where I can get one?

I have had a lexmark installed with a desk top that my lap top also could access but the lexmark went belly up so i added a HP to the desk top that works great,now I need to add it to the HP laptop as it can’t find it on the desktop.Do I need to go to add a printer on the laptop?it asks me to name my connection I want use and the name of the printer,or do i go thru add a printer in the desk top control panel and right click on the printer I want to use select properties,click the share tab,click share this printer then name it,should the name be HP photosmart 4200? or what and then go to the laptop click add a new printer or add a printer?? didn’t see add a new printer and browse for what? The HP photosmart 4200?OK as you can see i have rough idea just from looking where am I off if I’m off.I haven’t tried it yet and do i need the printer software installed on the laptop,I shouldn’t because its on the desktop and its a network,I’m using the desktop via laptop??Thanks

I have a HP Photosmart All in one C5180 Series printer. I have it hooked up to my wireless router via an Ethernet cable. On my Vista computer I was able to go to
Printers -> Add New -> Network Printer-> and then select it from the list that popped up.
On my XP computer, I dont know how to add that printer. I have tried putting in the Printers IP for URL and everything. I also dont know how to do it on my iMac.

ok, recently i purchased a macbook, and i have a windows xp based desktop.
I have logitech wireless router (latest one) and im trying to share the printer, but im not sure how to do it. And i have a HP Photosmart 8250.
