open the HP Director, click on Settings and move the mouse to Print Settings -> Printer Toolbox (then left click). A new window opens “HP xyz series Toolbox” with a Tab “Estimated Ink Level” there it shows you more or less accurate how much ink is left in the cartridges.
It’s at least six years old and probably not supported by Vista. I say ten-fifteen dollars if it has pretty fresh cartridges, and free if the cartridges are exhausted or not very full. Sorry, but nobody wants old worn out inkjets when new ones cost as much as ink carts for an old one.
My printer has been acting stupid lately and it was working fine 2 days ago and then i took out the ink catridge cuz i was bored (stoopid me) and it wouldnt print any more then i tried doing it again to see if it works but nothing. Then I thught it was the ink I have Hp Photosmart D5160 and D5100 series??? anyone no how to see how much ink is left?

Photosmart’s will automatically tell you when your ink is low, it is usually the black ink that goes first. But you can also go to your Control Panel, click on Printer and find Service your printer.
Once found, there’s common sense instructions for cleaning and testing.
