HP Deskjet printer buying guide

I have an HP 2710 all-in-one printer/scanner with HP photosmart essential 2.5 software. I was told by HP customer service that this software allows me to scan, but i can’t find anything that says something about scanning. I press the scan button on my 2710 and it says I need to “run HP software for this feature” Do I have the right software and if so, what do I do? If not the right software, any suggestions? Thanks!
