Slow Pc Startup Because Of Usb Devices?

I have a PC I built myself a few years ago (now used as a secondary pc) that has an Asus P5WD2 Prem. motherboard and an Intel Pentium D 830 cpu. All the usb ports are 2.0.
I have a HP Photosmart printer with card reader hooked up via usb and also a WD My Book 500GB external usb drive.
When I boot up the PC and both of these devices are attached to the pc it takes about 5 minutes for the POST to run because it is checking for external drives. What settings in the bios do I need to change to get this fixed?
Quickboot is enabled and neither the WD or the card reader is set as a boot drive, just the DVD and Primary HDD.
