Slow Pc Startup Because Of Usb Devices?
Filed in Deskjet Help Forums on ธ.ค..17, 2009
I have a PC I built myself a few years ago (now used as a secondary pc) that has an Asus P5WD2 Prem. motherboard and an Intel Pentium D 830 cpu. All the usb ports are 2.0.
I have a HP Photosmart printer with card reader hooked up via usb and also a WD My Book 500GB external usb drive.
When I boot up the PC and both of these devices are attached to the pc it takes about 5 minutes for the POST to run because it is checking for external drives. What settings in the bios do I need to change to get this fixed?
Quickboot is enabled and neither the WD or the card reader is set as a boot drive, just the DVD and Primary HDD.

Well, you’re certainly looking in the right place as it spends ages over POST.
Bit difficult to specify an area in BIOS to change without seeing it as they’re all different. However, two things I can think of:
1. Do you have USB in your Boot order menu? If so, it may be searching for bootable media via your External drive.
Try, either disabling ‘boot from USB devices’ OR, at least changing it’s priority.
2. (No other thoughts here, other than): My pc sometimes does this after a crash, I find removing the Power lead to the pc (as opposed to just switching off), then re-inserting & going again helps!
Personally though, I reckon option1 is your most likely. Take a look around!
Hope it helps.

Check in boot options for boot from other devices or boot from usb drives and disable that.
