Your printer is conflicting with old registry keys. You need a pro to completely remove the drivers and software and reinstall it. Find help by a geek and tell them this. Dont mess with the registry if you dont know what you are doing!!
The only other thing you can do it’s but a different brand/model of printer or reinstall windows!

1) Are all of your connections snug and in the right places?
2) Is the printer on?
3) Have you installed the correct drivers?
4) Is the printer’s control panel active (if it’s grayed out and you can’t click on anything, the printer isn’t connected)?
5) Have you reinstalled since connecting the new printer?

Try uninstalling all other printers. Look in the add/remove programs icon under control panel. If the old printers are not listed there then go to ‘printers/faxes’ and right click on the old printer icon and click ‘remove’. Do this for all old or unused printers.
Secondly try using a different USB port on your computer, most modern machines have four ports at the back and at least two in the front. I’m assuming you are using Windows XP. If the printer is ’seen’ by the computer on the new port then a message such as ‘new hardware found’ will pop up in the system tray. Allow the system to install the printer and the try it.
By the way, I’m assuming you have already installed the drivers for the new printer. Did you install the drivers BEFORE pluging in the USB cable to the printer? Otherwise it will cause you all sorts of headaches!
