I have the same HP model. You should be able to go to the HP web site and find the documentation in PDF file (you will need Adobe PDF reader or other PDF file reader for this which is free).
Incidentally, If the software for the F4180 was ever removed or transferred to another PC/OS, you may have some trouble with the scanner functions. Personally, I do not think this model from HP was quite ready for Windows Vista; in my case it worked great with XP but not with Vista.
If you have Vista OS, look for a file called ‘hpqscnvw.exe’ in the HP files. You can copy-paste this to your desk-top and click on it to get the scanner to work. Hope this helps. __ Jim G

You should have an icon for HP Solutions Center. If it’s a flat scanner, you put what you want scanned on the glass, face down, and when you open the Solutions center you should see “Scan Document” and “Scan Picture” buttons. It should guide you through it.
You can also go to the hp website and type in the model number of your printer and it should bring up info on your printer.
