My Printer Fell Yesterday, And Now It Won’t Say Anything Other Than Door Open.?

Is their any way I can fix this myself? the area directly under the screen saying this is broken, but that’s the only sign that anything is wrong with it that i can actually see. It is a HP Photosmart C4599 wireless printer.

Yes, it is most probable that the printer door sensor is broken or out of position, a connector or wire has come loose, or damage to a circuit board may have occurred.
I don’t know where it is or what the door sensor looks like for that particular printer, but the sensor and its associated activator could be any of a number of things and most often, unless you are very familiar with printers and what to look for, they can be easy or very nearly impossible to identify or locate. Some printers use a small magnetic sensor, some use a mechanical switch activated by a small tab on the door, or a position of the hinge, or an optical sensor interrupted by a tab or piece of plastic on the door somehow. Since it was dropped and there is visible damage, there may well be a piece broken or out of alignment/position. What and where exactly is hard to say.
You have a couple of options:
1. take it to a repair center and see what they say
2. purchase a new printer.
One of your previous answerers responded that “printers were made to be fixed”. I wish that were true. However, most inkjet printers are not actually “made to be fixed” as they are usually nearly impossible to find parts and service documentation for when they do break. Printer prices on these are usually so low that it’s not cost effective or practical for the manufacturer or service center to repair or have parts available for them. I know this because I fix printers professionally for a living for the last 25+ years. In fact, here is a website I found that has your printer available for $80 new.
You couldn’t repair a printer for $80.http://www.megamacs.com/item/HP-C4599-Wi…
Best of luck.

Hello MIRA!!
My name is herbert and I hope this might give you an idea of what is wrong with it. I fix my boss computers and also coffee machines. these machines elctronic parts are not hard to test and fix but printers are neck brakers.I bought 2 used printers and both were not good at all.I finally bought a new one. My home frezzer when I open the door the light turns on and close turns off. This is becouse there is a switch
that turn on and off the light. Basicly, same as your printers door. you will have to desasamble your printer and find that switch.check the connections and look for broken or loose part.the switch might be located behind the door but also some place else. After this, if the problem persist, the shock might have damaged some internal bord or part. if you have an insurance for it, use it and if you don’t have it you might consider in buying a new one.
One rule of thumb I have, printers were made to work for a good time without a repairman. printers were not made to be fix. Sorry for your printer and best of luck!!!!!

Look for the access door sensor.
Put it back into place.
Make sure that the little tab that triggers it isnt broken.
EDIT: Printers were made to be fixed. That’s one of the primary things my shop does.
