Besides the fact that “deskjet” is an branding acronym, I would ask you whether you want cheap or quality? What size and type of images will you typically print? Will you be printing a lot of stuff? Common printers use dye-based inks and fade quickly. The best ones use pigment-based inks. Inks can be very expensive; especially if you print a lot. If you chose to buy a pigment ink printer look at the cost of cartridges (or tanks) and don’t necessarily buy a cheap printer. Usually the inks are very expensive if the printer is cheap….
I have an Epson Photo Stylus R2400, for the quality and non-fading I get, and the wider format, yet the cartridges are VERY pricey! If you pay more for a printer then you usually get bigger ink containers, which are normally more cost effective and also often allow for refilling of the tanks from third party ink suppliers. This may be beyond your needs or interest.
Basically, If you want to do good photos then you want an inkjet printer using pigment-based inks. If you just want to print documents, then you can use just about anything.
Deskjets are HP brand.
What you should consider is what you need the printer for (is it just basic printing? Do you need a scanner? A fax?…)
Then look carefully at the features that each printer has.
That should help you narrow it down.
