I have a HP Photosmart C4580 Wireless Printer. I am unable to install it wirelessly. I have a wireless N Dlink router. I am able to access all the functions of the printer if it is connected to the laptop through the USB drive. But I am not able to install it wirelessly.
Should I fall back to a Wireless G router? I bought the N router thinking that it would be backward compatible for all such day-2-day requirements.

I don’t think your router is the problem. As long as it uses WLAN 802.11, then it’ll work. And your router uses that wireless standard.
I’m guessing that some setting on your router is not matching up to a setting on your printer, which is therefore blocking the connection. There are 3 settings that have to match exactly: The SSID name, the encryption mode (WEP, WPA, etc), and the encryption key (password).
So, I’d suggest you go into your router’s wireless settings, find those three items and write them down. Then, go into your printer’s wireless settings and make sure the same three things are entered.
Failing that, maybe this will help. It is the HP support site page that shows how to install your particular printer on a wireless router:http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docum…
Failing that, here is a solution from a person using a Linksys router that was having a similar problem with the same printer. He changed the router channel to 1 and that solved his problem:http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/…
Good luck!
