Hp Solution Center $friendlyname$?
My HP Solution Center under Other Devices lists 2 devices both named $FriendlyName$ (including the $ marks). Clicking on various Settings when either of these devices is selected indicates they are not set up. A 3rd device, my HP Printer also is listed and works OK. Why are these 2 $FriendlyName$ Other Devices listed here and how do I remove them?
They do not show up on the Control Panel/Printers screen for either of the 2 computers on my home network; one XP, one VISTA. My printer is connected directly to router via LAN cable. HP Solution Center on VISTA machine now lists 2 $Friendlyname$ devices while HP Solution Center on XP machine lists only 1 $FriendlyName$ device. HP HelpDesk told me that since my printer works when selected there is no HP problem. Yet, the only place I see $FriendlyName$ devices is in HP Solution Center and they don’t work when selected. Could these somehow be trying to identify the Scan or Copy or Flash Drive functions of the HP PhotoSmart C7250?

HP Solution Center gets the names displayed on the tabs from a key in the registry,
The Friendly name is controlled by a registry key…..
HKLMSOFTWAREHewlett-PackardDigitalI… Color LaserJet 2840 Series PLC 6DeviceInstance”The Instance Number”Strings
The data field is called “FriendlyName” if it is blank you will get $FriendlyName$ displayed.
Each Instance should be named different, and subsitute the printer you have in place of my HP 2840 in registry key.
