Filed in Deskjet Help Forums on ธ.ค..19, 2009
The mechanism that holds the ink is stuck. We’ve turned the printer on and off to see if it will move, it will not. We were printing on it before and everything was fine. (before meaning 5 minutes before) Can anyone help!? ASAP.
Must know by tonight if possible!!

Take on board this advice as this might help you.
1. Check the obvious. Are you out of ink or toner? Is your printer getting power? Are all the cables securely fastened? If you have a laser printer, is it set to online mode?
2. Are other print jobs blocking the way? Go to Start | Control Panel | Printers And Other Hardware | Printers And Faxes. Double-click the icon for your printer to open the Documents window and clear any pending print jobs by selecting Cancel All Documents from the Printer drop-down menu (see Figure 1).
3. Try printing a test page from the printer, not from Windows XP. Most printers have a built-in test function that’s activated by holding down one or more buttons while the printer is starting up. Check your printer’s user manual for instructions. If this page prints successfully, you know the problem is either with your connection or with the software in your computer.
4. Check your printer’s USB or parallel connection.
5. Try printing something simple from Windows’ Notepad. To open Notepad, go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | Notepad, type a few lines of text in a document, and try printing it. If it successfully prints, the problem is with the software program you originally tried to print from.
6. Try printing using Windows XP’s generic printer driver. Open and run the Add Printer Wizard. When you get to the Install Printer Software screen, select Generic under Manufacturer and Generic/Text Only under Printers (see Figure 2).
7. Select No for Do You Want To Use This Printer As The Default Printer? (see Figure 3). Click Next.
8. When prompted on the next screen, tell Windows XP to print a test page. If the page successfully prints, then you probably have a problem with your installed printer driver. Either update or reinstall the driver.

You can try pulling the cartridge gently, or pull the chain it’s connected to – just to move it out of it’s current position. This may free it up enough for the printer to work itself out.
Failing that, it may be necessary to take the printer away for repair.

Try opening the printer cover and turn it on. Sometimes (not all the time) it refreshes itself. Or is the paper stuck? 90% of the time you can pull it out slowly (with the power off, of course).
