How Long Do You Leave Printed Photographs Out Before They’re Dry?

by admin on ธ.ค..22, 2009, under Deskjet Help Forums

I have an HP Photosmart All in One printer. The documentation that comes with the paper says you have to leave photos out for 7 days before you can put them in an album. I have a hard time believing this. How long should you leave printed photos out to dry?

I give inkjet prints at least 3 days of drying before storage. Understand that water isn’t the only solvent used in the ink in your inkjet printer. There are other less volatile solvents in the ink formula which need time to off-gas before the prints are ready to be put away, particularly if you keep your printouts in plastic display sleeves or frame them behind glass. It’s like keeping them in a ziplock bag. Prints that are still “wet” will cause pools of moisture to condense on the plastic or glass surface which may create blotches or smears on the print. It will also decrease the life of the paper and may even encourage mold growth.

… Dry a print for at least 6 hours before framing.
