How Can I Create A Home Network With…?
I want to make a small home network so that I can share files and the printer. Here’s the equipment I have:
-iMac with Mac OS X 10.4
-HP Laptop with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
-HP Photosmart C5280 Printer
-Linksys (WRT54G) Wireless Router
-Tons of extra cat5 cables (Ethernet Cable)
My iMac is the desktop, primary computer that has the Printer connected directly too it. I have software on both Mac and PC systems that files can be opened on both patforms. I essentially want to be able to do file transferring between the two computers, and print from the laptop when connected to the network.
Does anyone have a really good walkthrough or know where I can get one?

Let me see if I can give you a mini walk thru on here:
On your Linksys router, assign your Mac a static IP address and on your Mac change your NIC settings (Lan IP) to the same.
On your Mac, share out the printer and any folder/files that you want to transfer back and forth to from your laptop. You can also assign permissions but keep it simple at first.
You can use the wireless on your laptop when roving around the house and when you want speed to transfer files to your Mac, just plug it in using an ethernet cable. DHCP settings will be fine for your HP Laptop, so you shouldn’t have to to do anything with that. Add your printer but go through the wizard and use either the network printer option. This is should be easy for you, just remember the static IP address you assigned your Mac, that is what you will use for your network printer settings. On Vista Home Premium, it comes with a Network discovery interface. You can even use that to access your folder/files and printer on your mac.
Other than configuring your router for security and access thats all you need to do for a basic set up.
I hope this helps, good luck

I use this one, It’s been very reliable, fast and they have servers all over the world as well as high encryption options. Also check out this article on their site about being anonymous on the net. I found it quite interesting.
