Can Someone Please Help Me With This Darn Scanner/printer Problem?
Okay, I bought this new printer a few weeks ago. It’s a all-in-one hp officejet 6500. I installed it, and apparently threw away my manual with my box, or misplaced it. However, I looked up the manual online and it was absolutely NO help what-so-ever! I am trying to scan some old pictures onto my computer [[ WHOLE POINT OF BUYING THIS PRINTER TO BEGIN WITH ]] however, when i hit scan or start scan it makes a noise and says “NO SCAN OPTIONS , PRESS OK. ” Well in the trouble shooting section of the manual it states, if it says that then you didn’t install your printer right. So, I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it! It prints and copies..just won’t scan. I went to scanners and printers, and the scanner is on there. I even ran a diagnostic test and it said it was successfull! I’m so close to chunking this thing out my window it is ridiculous..i have fought with it for over a week! Does anyone have any suggestions or know anything about this specific printer..or if there is a step I am missing maybe?!?!?! I would greatly appreciate it..and you would help keep me sane. haha. ![]()
thnx.

It may be a fault with the twain driver.
Try installing google picasa and scan from software acquire from your printer http://picasa.google.co.uk/
In other software you need to select the twain driver to scan.http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.…

Well …did you follow the instructions of put the install disc in your computer …WITHOUT plugging in the printers USB first….and waited till the install software told you to plug in your printer to finish the install?..I know for a fact installing with the printer plugged in the the computer before you start the install will screw up a lot of the print drives and utilities..Are you using Vista 64 bit? .You might want to go on the HP web site and look for drivers and firmware for 64 bit. they have a # for 24/7 service too. It just may need just a driver update.

HP Products are moody and HP most unhelpful.
Here is how you go about. Uninstall the entire HP software. Go SEARCH option in your Start MENU and look for HP 6500 files and directories.. delete the same. Delete the same from your Recycle bin too.
Reboot your Computer. Do Not connect your Printer/Scanner.
Start installing from your CD. Select most common options – and proceed. Mid way, it will ask for Hardware… Now Connect your USB Cable FIRST, and connect the POWER CABLE SECOND; THIRD SWITCH ON THE POWER SWITCH and then fourthly Switch on the Scanner/Printer Power button.
You monitor should show NEW HARDWARE found – as HP 6500 – and the installation will proceed automatically. When the installation is complete, take out the CD. And even though they do not suggest – Reboot your Computer.
You will have a HP SOLUTION CENTER on your desktop. Click it. You will have an option to SCAN.
It should work
And infuture be careful when you get HP products. Don’t get alarmed, there was no working manual in the box. HP does not provide any instructions.
Happy Scanning
