It is not cartridge related. I think it has to do with my computer settings (which I do not know how to reset for this particular printer.

Normally when your printer is not printing in color, it IS cartridge related. Either the cartridge is empty or it has been damaged.
How are you so sure it is not cartridge related?
If you are positive it is not the cartridge, when you go to print something, you will see an options or preferences button. You click on the button and you should have the choice to print in color or B+W.
Also make sure you have the right drivers installed for your printer. There are also normally some really good print utilities you can install with HP printers to help you configure the settings.

You can reach the printer settings by going to Control Panel and selecting Printers and Faxes. On the box that comes up right click on your printer and choose Properties and from there you can access Color Management and the printer Utilities.
The other way is in the application you are trying to print from. Go to File > Print and when the print box appears select Properties. Also, make sure the “color” box is check instead of “black and white”.
